2007-08 Rams
The Rams have an absolutely overwhelming offence – just as good as last seasons. The key Pro Bowlers are back as well: Drew Bennett, Brian Leonard, and Randy McMichael – the number one group in the league. They also have a horse of a RB in Steven Jackson, who will rush, catch, score and come back for more this season. But will the defense improve this season – especially on the line backing end? Pisa Tinoisamoa and Will Witherspoon are a bit small, and there’s still a lack of depth to contend with. However, ticket buyers can expect the Rams to balance out their lackluster defense – and continue far into the season.
The Rams also went out and signed cornerbacks Michael Hawthorne and Michael Stone to help out a secondary that struggled to hold opponents passing attacks last season. Another addition to the defense was defensive end Jay Williams, who should help the Rams out with the depth and leadership on the defensive line.
Previous Seasons
In the 2006 off-season the St. Louis Rams made a number of pick-ups in free agency to try and take their team to the Super Bowl once again. Everyone around the league knows that the weakness of the Rams has been their defense for a number of years know and management went out and made some changes to give the unit a much needed shot in the arm. They signed Pro Bowl linebackers Dexter Coakley and Chris Claiborne. Both players might be a little bit long in the tooth, but they both bring their “A” game to each and every contest. Coakley was actually named to the Pro Bowl just last season. The only reason that he was available this past off-season was, because Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells has a certain mold that he likes his linebackers to fit and Coakley wasn’t in that mold. Expect Coakley to do some great things in the Rams system this year.

In the draft, the Rams had a number of issues to address. The biggest one was getting some help on the offensive line. The Rams did just that when they picked Florida State tackle Alex Barron with their first round pick and then grabbed Nebraska center Rich Incognito with their third round pick. Both players are physical specimens that can just wear down a defensive line. The only question mark about either one of them is with Incognito. He is an amazing player, but he has had off the field problems in his college career. It seems that his problems were what made him fall all the way into the third round. If the Rams can keep Incognito’s nose clean, then they will have one of the big steals of this draft.
The Rams bread and butter is on the offensive side of the ball. The team is led by quarterback Marc Bulger who is one of the more prolific passers in the league. In the backfield the team will have a new featured back. Stephen Jackson will be stepping into the role and future Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk will be used as a “change of pace” back instead of being the workhorse he always has been. The receiving corps should be one of the best ones the Rams have ever fielded. The two main guys will be Issac Bruce and Torry Holt. They will be backed up by Kevin Curtis, Shaun Macdonald, and Dane Looker in this high octane offense that is routinely called the “Greatest Show on Turf.”
